I got an impulse to camp at the beach. Who cares if it's "winter"!?! I've lived here my whole life and have never once camped at the beach! So on Feb 2, I took the girls, Pepito, and my folks for a quick overnight jaunt. The girls were shocked when we arrived so quickly - - that alone made them exclaim "This is the BEST VACATION EVER!". We got to the campsite at about 3:30pm (after school), and were out by noon the next day. It was so peaceful and relaxing. We had an easy dinner, and cereal for breakfast, so it was not at all a labor-intensive campout. The tide was low when we arrived, so we had plenty of time to explore the tidepools. The girls recently finished a sea life science section at school, so they were quite excited to see the anenomes. Anyway, I highly recommend quick, spontaneous getaways. Seeing the dolphins swim right in front of us made it absolutely worth it!
They found lots of pretty shells. We made sure there were no living creatures inside (most of them were cracked shells). In this photo, you can see that Viviana is not very happy that Ivy got to show off the big clam shell! (If you click on the pics, they will get bigger)
For some beautiful reason known only to her, Ivy was moved to be very graceful and lithe on the beach. I watched her dance and twirl, very much in her own world, several times during our visit. I tried to capture a moment without interrupting her reverie.
